1. What a license grants

A Asternodis license is a subscription that entitles you to run Asternodis to protect a number of DR Site Pairs, for one year, with access to online activation, offline tokens, and product updates for the term. A DR Site Pair is one production site paired with one recovery site, and each tier covers a stated number of protected nodes (Proxmox nodes hosting at least one guest you have chosen to protect). Virtual machines and containers are never counted or capped, and nodes at the recovery site do not count against the allowance. Every license tier includes the complete feature set; nothing is held back.

Asternodis shows this entitlement as a live pool inside the app (how many Site Pairings you've used and how many remain), and creating a new pair draws from it, prompting you to add capacity when the pool is full. And licensing is fail-safe: if a license or trial lapses, scheduled replication pauses, and adding a pair, protecting a new guest, running a DR test and starting a planned migration are blocked, but failover, failback and abort always stay available so an expiry can never block a real recovery.

A paid license also doesn't lapse abruptly. It warns for 14 days before its expiry date, then keeps working normally through a 7-day grace period: only the day after grace ends does any of the above apply. That's three weeks of notice before anything changes. (A free trial has no grace period: it ends on its date.)

A license's pairs can be spread across as many Asternodis installs as you like: one pair on five controllers, five on one, or anything in between. Each install that activates the key takes a seat, and Asternodis totals their pairs against your entitlement. Reusing a key on a rebuilt controller just works: the old seat frees itself, or you can release it instantly from your My licenses page. Keys are for your own use and may not be shared, resold, or published.

2. The Home Lab (non-commercial) license

The Home Lab license is a reduced-price tier offered in the spirit of the Proxmox community, so individuals can run real disaster recovery at home without an enterprise budget. It is licensed only for non-commercial use, as defined below.

Non-commercial use means use by you as an individual where all of the following are true:

• ✓The Asternodis controller and the Proxmox systems it protects are owned and operated by you personally, not by a company, employer, client, or other organization.
• ✓You use it for personal projects, self-education, experimentation, or a home lab.
• ✓Neither Asternodis nor the workloads it protects are used to generate revenue, deliver a product or service, or support the operations of any business or organization, whether or not money changes hands.

The following require a Business license (this list is illustrative, not exhaustive):

• ✕Use by, at, or on behalf of a company or business, including a sole proprietorship or a one-person company.
• ✕Protecting workloads that run a business, a paid or ad-supported service, an online store, or a client's systems.
• ✕Use by an employer's IT: protecting corporate, office, or work infrastructure of any size.
• ✕Use by a managed service provider, reseller, consultant, or hosting provider on behalf of others.
• ✕Use by an organization (non-profit, school, or government body) for its operations. (Non-profit and education pricing is available; contact us.)

Monetizing content about your home lab (a blog, videos, streams) does not by itself make your use commercial. Using Asternodis to protect the systems that produce or serve that content as a business does.

3. The Business license

Any use that is not non-commercial as defined above requires a Business license. A single pair is sold at three node allowances: Business (up to 4 protected nodes), Business Plus (up to 12) and Enterprise (unlimited), and in volume packs (5, 10, and 25 pairs) whose node allowance (20, 40 and 100 respectively) is pooled across every pair in the pack rather than fixed per pair, so an uneven mix of client sizes does not strand capacity. Exceeding your node allowance does not interrupt replication or recovery; it blocks creating a further DR Site Pair until you upgrade. Upgrading from Home Lab to Business is simply purchasing a Business license and activating the new key. There is no data migration or reinstallation.

4. Choosing honestly, and compliance

We license Home Lab on good faith, the way the broader Proxmox and open-infrastructure community operates. When you buy a Home Lab license you confirm that your use is non-commercial. If your use later changes (you start a business, take it to work, or begin protecting production systems), please move to a Business license.

We reserve the right to verify eligibility and, where use of a Home Lab license is clearly commercial, to require the correct license or to suspend the key. We won't be heavy-handed about honest home labs; this exists so the discounted tier stays available to the people it's meant for.

What license check-in sees. When online, Asternodis periodically checks in with our activation service to refresh its offline token. That check-in reports a small counts-only snapshot tied to your license key: the number of DR Site Pairs, protected guests, and source nodes. It never includes VM names, IP addresses, configuration, or any of your data, and the app keeps running normally if the check-in can't be reached. We use it only to match a license against its entitlement (for example, to notice a Home Lab key being used at clearly commercial scale).

5. Term, renewal, and the free trial

Licenses are annual subscriptions and renew until cancelled. You can manage or cancel billing anytime from your My licenses page. The 14-day free trial includes the full feature set so you can prove recovery works in your own environment before you pay; it is provided as-is, without warranty.

6. Who grants this license

Asternodis is licensed to you by Irruptiv Software Solutions LLC, a limited liability company registered in Georgia, United States ("Irruptiv", "we", "us"), the licensor under these terms and the owner of the software.

The software is licensed, not sold. Your subscription grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to run Asternodis for the entitlement and term you purchased. Irruptiv retains all ownership of the software and of every copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property right in it. Nothing here transfers ownership of anything.

Your own data is yours and stays yours. Asternodis runs on your hardware and your replicated workloads move directly between your own sites. See the privacy policy for exactly what does and does not leave your infrastructure.

7. Warranties

We warrant that we will provide the software and the activation service with reasonable skill and care.

Beyond that, and to the fullest extent the law allows, Asternodis is provided "as is", without implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the software will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any particular recovery point objective, recovery time, or successful recovery of any specific workload will be achieved: those depend on your hardware, storage, network, and workload, which are outside our control. The free trial is likewise provided as-is.

This disclaimer does not change how the product behaves. Recovery is deliberately never gated on licensing: failover, failback, and abort keep working even when a license has lapsed or our service is unreachable. That is a design commitment we hold ourselves to. It is simply not a warranty of outcome.

8. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill, or data, however caused and whether or not we were advised such loss was possible. Our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with your license is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.

We would rather be plain about why this is here than bury it. Asternodis protects workloads whose loss can be worth far more than any subscription to this product, orders of magnitude more. No vendor at this price can carry that exposure, and one who claimed to would not be able to honour it. Asternodis is one layer of a disaster recovery strategy, not the whole of one: keep independent backups, and rehearse your recovery plans. The product exists to make rehearsing them easy, and a plan you have never tested is not a plan.

9. Governing law

This license is governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States, and the state and federal courts located in Georgia have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections and the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your own country of residence.
